Prof. Shmueli gave a seminar on "Explanatory vs. Predictive Modeling in Scientific Research" at the Statistics department, University of Auckland, New Zealand. This is the largest statistics department in New Zealand.

Presented @ ISI: A Flexible Regression Model for Count Data

On Nov 25 Prof Shmueli presented her work on "A Flexible Regression Model for Count Data" (joint work with Prof Kimberly Sellers, Georgetown University) at the Indian Statistical Institute in Kolkata, India. During her visit with the Bayesian Interdisciplinary Research Unit there, she also visited the Mahalanobis museum.

"Statistical Methods in eCommerce Research" Now in Print

My co-edited book Statistical Methods in eCommerce Methods is now in print! The book gathers over thirty researchers and practitioners from the fields of statistics, computer science, information systems, and marketing to discuss the growing use of statistical methods in e-Commerce research. From privacy protection to economic impact, the book first identifies the many obstacles that are encountered while collecting, cleaning, exploring, and analyzing e-Commerce data. On Sabbatical in Bhutan

I am on sabbatical leave in Bhutan this academic year. Two sections of the "Data Mining for Business" MBA elective will be offered in Fall 2008 by great insturctors. One in DC by Herb Edelstein and one in Baltimore by Inbal Yahav.

Launched: The Smith Data Mining Network

Prof. Shmueli launched an active platform for veterans of the "Data Mining for Business" course, where ex-students can keep in touch and interact on everything from careers to cool stories. Past students can also join the LinkedIn group.
